Computing

Subject Lead: Mr. Anthony Webb

At Stanley Park Infants’ School, we are committed to preparing our children for the ever-changing digital world. Through our computing curriculum, we aim to equip pupils with the essential skills they need to succeed in the future, while fostering confidence, creativity, and curiosity in using technology.

We recognise the rapid pace of technological advancement and seek to provide children with the tools they need to adapt and thrive. As well as learning how to use technology effectively, our pupils are taught the importance of staying safe online and offline. E-safety is a key part of our curriculum and is regularly taught and reinforced across all year groups.

Our approach ensures that children not only learn how to use technology responsibly, but also begin to understand how it can enhance their learning across the wider curriculum. By building a strong foundation in computing and digital literacy, we empower our pupils to become confident, capable, and responsible users of technology.

How we teach Computing

At Stanley Park Infants’ School, we teach the three key strands of the computing curriculum: Computer Science, Information Technology, and Digital Literacy. These skills are revisited regularly to build on children’s prior learning and deepen their understanding over time.

Computing is taught through a variety of modern technologies, including Chromebooks, iPads, and programmable toys, giving children hands-on experience with tools that reflect the world around them. We believe it is important for pupils to be exposed to up-to-date and relevant technology so they can develop a strong understanding of its role in learning and everyday life.

In Key Stage One, we use Purple Mash to deliver our computing lessons. This engaging platform allows children to explore, practise, and develop their computing skills in a fun and accessible way, while supporting progression across all three key areas.
